  • Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or Protected Persons under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act

  • Have completed 0–12 months of graduate-level studies in the target program
  • Hold a first-class academic average in the last two years of full-time study
  • Ensure the program involves significant research (thesis, dissertation, or scholarly publication)
  • Not have previously held a Master’s-level scholarship from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC

How are Applicants Selected?

Evaluation is carried out at the institutional level using:

  • Academic excellence – 50%
  • Research potential – 30%
  • Personal characteristics & interpersonal skills – 20%

Primarily Canadian students, but international students may apply if meeting institutional requirements and program eligibility.

Where will the Scholarship be Taken?
At eligible Canadian universities with CGRS M allocations.

Up to 3,298 students annually across disciplines; additional allocations exist for Indigenous and Black student researchers.
