- 16 September 2025 at 5:00 pm (local time of the endorsing institution) – for applicants and recommenders.
- 18 September 2025 at 5:00 pm (local time of the endorsing institution) – for institutional endorsement and submission.
Tell Me About The Award:
The Marshall Scholarship, established in 1953, is one of the most prestigious and competitive scholarships available to U.S. students. It enables exceptional American graduates to study at any UK university with full financial support, fostering leadership and strengthening U.S.–UK relations.

Almost all academic disciplines at any UK university.
Type:
Postgraduate (Master’s, PhD/DPhil)
Who can Apply?
Applicants must:
- Be U.S. citizens.
- Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. four-year college/university by September 2026.
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.7 (non-rounded).
- Have graduated after April 2023.
- Not have previously studied for a degree in the UK.
How are Applicants Selected?
Selection is based on:
- Academic excellence.
- Leadership potential.
- Ambassadorial potential to strengthen U.S.–UK understanding.
- Strong institutional endorsement and recommendations.
Which Countries Are Eligible?
United States only.
Where will the Award be Taken?
Any recognized university in the United Kingdom.
How Many Awards?
Up to 50 scholarships are awarded annually.
What is the Benefit of the Award?
- Full tuition fees at any UK university.
- Living stipend: ~£1,378/month (outside London) or ~£1,690/month (London).
- Round-trip airfare (U.S.–UK and return for multi-year scholars).
- Visa costs and access to UK National Health Service (NHS).
- Additional travel and research grants.
- Access to the Marshall Scholars alumni network.
How Long Will the Award Last?
- One-Year Marshall Scholarship: For a one-year master’s program.
- Two-Year Marshall Scholarship: For either two consecutive master’s degrees, a two-year master’s program, or a master’s plus PhD start.
- PhD/DPhil Pathway: Up to three years of doctoral study.
How to Apply:
- Prepare and submit your online application via the Marshall Scholarship portal.
- Secure endorsement from your U.S. undergraduate institution.
- Provide required essays (personal statement, proposed academic program, leadership, ambassadorial potential).
- Submit 3 strong recommendation letters.
- Applications must be endorsed and submitted online by your university before the institutional deadline.
- Shortlisted candidates will be invited for regional interviews in November.
