Under the revised technical-education curriculum, the Federal Ministry of Education declared that 26 trade categories had been authorized.

The government affirmed that the updated curriculum will formally transform all Federal Science and Technical Colleges into Federal Technical Colleges beginning with the 2025โ€“2026 academic year, in a statement signed by Ben Folasade, the Ministryโ€™s Director of Press and Public Relations.

According to the statement:

โ€œStudents will now take between nine and ten subjects. These will include one trade course, five or six general subjects such as Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Citizenship & Heritage Studies, two or three related subjects; and one elective.โ€

The goal is to respond to the current needs of industries in Nigeria, particularly in digital services, construction, creative media, energy, agriculture, and other sectors.
