The African Union Internship Program is a full-time engagement that offers qualified individuals from diverse academic backgrounds the opportunity to gain professional exposure within the African Union.
It aims to:
- Complement participants’ educational experience.
- Develop personal and professional skills.
- Expose interns to the workings of the AU in a multicultural and pan-African environment.
- Groom potential future African leaders.
Which Fields are Eligible?
Interns may be placed in AU departments including but not limited to:
- Political Affairs, Peace & Security (PAPS)
- Education, Science, Technology & Innovation (ESTI)
- Health, Humanitarian Affairs & Social Development (HHS)
- Infrastructure & Energy (IE)
- Agriculture, Rural Development, Blue Economy & Sustainable Environment (ARBE)
- Women, Gender & Youth (WGY)
- Economic Development, Trade, Industry & Mining (ETIM)
- Information & Communication
- Office of the Legal Counsel (OLC)
- Partnership & Resource Mobilization
- Citizens & Diaspora (CIDO)
- And many other AU directorates and support offices.
Type:
🌍 Internship (full-time, with stipends and training opportunities).
Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Requirements)
Applicants must:
- Be enrolled in at least the final year of a Bachelor’s program, OR hold a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or postgraduate qualification.
- Be nationals of an AU Member State.
- Be 32 years or younger at the time of selection.
- Be fluent in at least one AU working language (English, French, Arabic, or Portuguese).
- Possess high moral integrity (no serious criminal record).
- Demonstrate interest in AU’s mission and ability to interact in a multicultural environment.
- ✅ Prior work experience is NOT required.

⚠️ Note: The AU does not cover travel, visa, accommodation, or living expenses. Interns must arrange their own insurance and expenses.
Duration & Conditions:
- Internship runs for 3 months, renewable once (maximum 6 months).
- AU provides training and professional development, but no relocation or travel support.
