For the second phase of the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative (RHEI), a signature youth-focused empowerment initiative run by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government, the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has publicly opened its online registration site.
The effort, which was started in response to Nigeria’s growing unemployment problem, is to provide thousands of untrained Nigerians with useful vocational skills so they can become job producers rather than job seekers. Interest in the program instantly increased when the portal went live, and the current phase aims to reach 27,000 individuals nationally. More than 16,470 Nigerians had already applied in the first hour after it was activated on Monday.

NDE Director-General Silas Agara, speaking at a news conference in Abuja, characterized the prompt reaction as a powerful sign of the program’s applicability and the public’s increasing faith in government-run skill-acquisition initiatives. He reiterated the NDE’s dedication to openness and effectiveness, adding that only candidates with a current National Identity Number (NIN) would be accepted.
“This initiative is fully digital. We’ve provided state-of-the-art software and internet infrastructure across all our 36 state offices, including the FCT and six zonal headquarters, to ensure seamless coordination and centralized monitoring from our headquarters,” Agara said.
He continued by saying that as part of its larger plan to encourage young participation in national development through practical skills, the Federal Government is focusing on Nigerian youth between the ages of 18 and 45 for this second phase through the NDE.
Recipients will receive training in more than 30 distinct vocational skills, chosen with care to take into account each state’s distinct economic environment. These include crafts including welding, carpentry, solar panel installation, electrical installation, catering, tailoring, and digital entrepreneurship. According to Agara, the goal of this state-by-state curriculum customization is to guarantee that the skills taught are both applicable and profitable in each area.
“What is applicable in Abia State might not be useful in Adamawa. That is why we took time to design a programme that reflects the local realities and economic strengths of each region,” he said.
The Tinubu-led administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” includes a number of people-focused initiatives, including the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative. Over 93,000 people benefited from the initiative’s initial phase, which included beginning supplies and vocational training to help them start their enterprises nationwide.
The government intends to increase the impact and integrate more young people into Nigeria’s informal economy, which provides a significant amount of the country’s jobs, in this second phase. The administration is placing a wager on the development of human capital to lower poverty, increase production, and encourage self-sufficiency by funding skill training.
The NDE underlined that oversight procedures have been established to guarantee efficient execution and responsibility across the course of the program. Both state and federal teams will closely monitor each step, from application and selection to training and post-training assistance.
In addition to cautioning against dishonest brokers or middlemen, the Directorate reassured the public that no fees are needed at any point during the procedure.
