Tell Me About The Foresight Institute AI Safety Grant Program:
To reduce the risk of catastrophic outcomes and support safer long-term trajectories as advanced AI systems grow more capable, this grant supports underexplored work in four key areas: Security Technologies for AI-Relevant Systems, Neurotechnology to Integrate with or Compete Against AGI, Safe Multi-Agent Scenarios, and Automating Research and Forecasting. The program funds both short-term and multi-year projects with a total annual budget of $4.5–5.5M, aiming to help shape a safe and beneficial AI future.
Which Fields are Eligible?
Proposals must align with at least one of the following four focus areas:
- Security Technologies for AI-Relevant Systems
- Automating Research and Forecasting
- Neurotechnology to Integrate with or Compete Against AGI
- Safe Multi-Agent Scenarios
Proposals outside these areas will not be accepted.

Who can Apply for the Foresight Institute AI Safety Grant Program?
Individuals, teams, and organizations working on projects aligned with at least one of the four focus areas are welcome to apply. Proposals outside the specific types of work outlined are held to a significantly higher bar.
How are Applicants Selected?
Proposals are reviewed in-house for alignment and quality. Strong submissions are referred to technical advisors for evaluation. Selected applicants may be contacted for written follow-up questions or a short call. Decisions are typically made within eight weeks of each deadline.

What is the Benefit of the Foresight Institute AI Safety Grant Program?
Grants typically range from $10,000 to over $300,000, depending on project scope. Up to 10% of direct research costs can be allocated for overheads. Projects may receive funding in full or in tranches, contingent on progress.
