The Al Jazeera Media Institute Fellowship Programme is a prestigious 3-month research and professional immersion opportunity hosted at the Al Jazeera Media Network (AJMN) in Doha, Qatar.
It aims to promote high-quality journalism in the Global South by supporting journalists and researchers to conduct original research, explore digital transformation in media, and experience Al Jazeera’s newsroom culture first-hand.

🔹 Fellowship Programme
– Includes two tracks:
- Al Jazeera Fellowship (research-focused)
- Visiting Journalist Fellowship (opening at a later date)
Who can Apply?
- Full-time journalists
- Freelance journalists (who meet eligibility requirements)
- Researchers or scholars in journalism, media, or social sciences
- Applicants who have strong writing, analytical, and research skills
- Non-Arabic speakers must be fluent in English
- Arabic native speakers should have working English knowledge (an advantage)
How are Applicants Selected?
A selection committee reviews all applications based on:
- Fulfilment of all eligibility criteria
- Professional background and competence
- Quality and originality of the research proposal
- Relevance of the proposal to AJMN’s mission and journalism practice
