Student Internship Positions
The 2026 City of Johannesburg Internships span multiple streams within the Community Development Department. Interns will be placed across four key roles in Arts, Culture, and Heritage:
1. Intern: Immovable Heritage (x2 posts)
Location: Joburg Newtown Building
Minimum Qualification: National Diploma in Heritage Studies, Fine Art, or Public Administration
Key Learning Areas:
- Street and place naming
- Public art coordination
- Preservation of heritage sites
2. Intern: Museums and Galleries (x6 posts)
Location: Various museums across Johannesburg
Minimum Qualification: Diploma or Degree in Conservation, Heritage or Curatorial Studies
Key Learning Areas:
- Collection management and conservation
- Museum exhibitions and tours
- Curatorial services
3. Intern: Arts and Culture (x4 posts)
Location: Joburg Newtown Building
Minimum Qualification: Public Administration, Policy Studies, or Arts Administration
Key Learning Areas:
- Creative industries
- Strategic cultural planning
- Implementation of flagship arts projects
4. Intern: Information Services (x2 posts)
Location: Museum Africa, Newtown
Minimum Qualification: Graphic Design or Photography
Key Learning Areas:
- Digitisation of collections
- Metadata tagging and archiving
- Adobe Creative Suite and digital editing tools

- Individuals pursuing Grade 12 Degree plus either
- A Degree/Higher National Diploma, or be studying towards completion of the qualification, in one of the following fields: Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Business Management, Public Administration, Management, Human Resources Development, Industrial Psychology, Organisational Psychology, Organisational Development, Labour Relations, or Labour Law (NQF Level 7); or
- A Diploma/N6 Certificate at NQF Level 5 or 6 in Human Resource Management (HR) or any other related qualification majoring in Human Resources.
