Tell Me About The Award:

The Max Weber Programme (MWP) at the European University Institute (EUI) is a unique postdoctoral program in the historical and social sciences in Europe. It is open to applicants who are within 5 years from the completion of their PhD, from anywhere in the world, regardless of nationality. 

Additionally, the Programme is highly selective, with an annual acceptance rate of <5% for a total of 55-60 Fellowships in the fields of political and social sciences, economics, law, and history. Preference is given to applicants who have only just completed their doctorate and have not had a postdoctoral fellowship before. Also, selected Fellows will benefit from the stimulating combination of a global program located in the heart of Europe offering a broad menu of multidisciplinary and disciplinary activities.

What is the Benefit of the Award?

Also, successful applicants will enjoy the following benefits:

  • Fellows receive a basic grant of 2,500 EUR per month.
  • In the second year, Fellows in Economics and Political and Social Sciences can earn an additional 850 EUR per month through a part-time assistant professor contract.
  • Family allowances include a household allowance of up to 310 EUR per month for partners with incomes below 2,000 EUR and a dependents’ allowance of 210 EUR per month per child.
  • Fellows are eligible for up to four months of paid parental leave if they have a child during the Fellowship.
  • Fellows receive 1,000 EUR annually for research expenses and can apply for up to an additional 1,000 EUR for conference participation or job interviews.
  • Travel reimbursement covers first-class rail or economy-class airfare up to 1,200 EUR for the Fellow’s incoming and outgoing trips.
