The WAAW Foundation Scholarship empowers young African women studying STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) courses in universities and colleges across Africa. Through this program, selected scholars receive financial support and mentoring to help them excel academically while volunteering to promote women’s participation in STEM through campus outreach chapters.

The WAAW Foundation is a U.S.-based non-profit organization dedicated to advancing STEM education for African women by providing scholarships, mentorship, and training programs.

Which Fields are Eligible?

Eligible STEM and STEM-related fields include:

  • All Engineering disciplines
  • Computer Science and Information Technology
  • Industrial Chemistry, Environmental Science, and Agriculture
  • Geography, Zoology, and Statistics
  • Biomedical Science, Pharmacy, Biochemistry

Note: Core medical courses like Medicine, Nursing, Optometry, and non-STEM fields such as Business, Economics, or Social Sciences are not eligible.

Who can Apply?

✅ Female students of African origin living and studying in Africa
✅ Must be enrolled full-time in a recognized university or college in Africa
✅ Currently in 1st or 2nd year (or 3rd year for 5-year programs)
✅ Must demonstrate financial need and academic excellence
✅ Must show leadership qualities and a history of community service
✅ Must be under the age of 32 years

How are Applicants Selected?

Selection involves three stages:

  1. Online application and essay review
  2. Zoom interview and submission of reference letters
  3. Final documentation review and scholarship confirmation
