About the Economics of Artificial Intelligence in Africa Short Course: Artificial Intelligence is rapidly evolving, and as it reshapes markets, labour, and power across Africa, understanding its economics is essential. The Global Center on AI Governance in partnership with the University of the Witwatersrand, will be running a fully funded short course on The Economics of Artificial Intelligence in Africa.

Designed for public officials, professionals from regional organizations, international development agencies, the private sector, as well as researchers and academics, the course equips participants with the skills to interpret, analyse, discuss, assess and evaluate how AI is reshaping African economies. In addition, the course explores how economic policy, regulation, and investment decisions can shape the development and impact of AI in return.
Delivered fully online, the course runs over five weeks and combines live virtual seminars, expert-led discussions, and applied case studies. Participants will engage with leading African and global scholars, take part in interactive learning activities, and complete reflective assessments.
Upon successful completion, learners will receive a certificate of competency.

Who Can Apply for Economics of Artificial Intelligence in Africa Short Course:Â
- Academic Background: Applicants should hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification. Relevant fields include, but are not limited to, public policy, social and economic development, artificial intelligence, African studies or disciplines related to the economics of AI.
