The University of Manchester Humanitarian Scholarship is a mission-driven programme launched in 2022 to support students whose education has been disrupted by war, conflict, or forced displacement. For 2026 entry, up to six fully funded undergraduate scholarships are available. The scholarship removes the three biggest barriers displaced students face: tuition fees, living expenses, and visa costs — offering a genuine second chance to restart higher education in the UK.
Which Fields are Eligible?
- Most 3-year undergraduate degrees at the University of Manchester.
- Eligible foundation options: Integrated Foundation Year or Biosciences Foundation Year.
- Not eligible: Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, or Architecture.
- No funding for Humanities foundation courses run with INTO Manchester.

Who can Apply?
Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- At serious risk due to war or conflict.
- Forced to leave home country (or relocate within it) in the last three years.
- Unable to start or finish a university degree due to circumstances.
- Have never studied in the UK or EU before.
- Applied for an undergraduate course starting September 2026 at the University of Manchester.
- Can clearly explain motivation for chosen course.
- Strong academic performance in previous studies.
- Not eligible if currently living in the UK or EU.
English Language Requirement:
- No proof required at scholarship application stage.
- Must meet English language conditions listed in the offer letter if admitted.
- Duolingo English Test not accepted.
- Scholarship does not cover pre-sessional English courses.
How are Applicants Selected?
- Based on eligibility and academic merit.
- Motivation and clarity of purpose in personal statement.
- No interview required.
- Results communicated by 29 May 2026 via email.
- Decisions are final.
