Who can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be citizens of, and permanently resident in, a developing country (IDA list of Borrowing Countries).
  • Hold, or expect to hold by September 2026, a First Degree equivalent to at least a UK Upper Second Class Honours.
  • Not have undertaken studies lasting one year or more in a developed country.
  • Be liable to pay academic fees at the international fee rate.
  • Be unable themselves, or through their families, to pay to study in the UK.
  • Commit to returning to their home country after completing their studies.
  • Meet the University’s English language requirements by 2 February 2026 (valid test results no more than two years old).

  • Each School shortlists candidates for recommendation.
  • The University of Leeds Scholarship Selection Panel makes the final decision.
  • Unsuccessful applicants notified ~4 weeks after deadline.
  • Shortlisted applicants informed within ~10 weeks.
