The DAAD Hilde Domin Scholarship is a fully funded scholarship program funded by the German Federal Foreign Office and administered by DAAD.
It supports students and doctoral candidates worldwide who are at risk of losing access to education or other rights due to political, civic, religious, gender, or identity-based persecution.
The programme offers the opportunity to begin or complete a degree or research programme in Germany in a safe and supportive environment.

Who Can Apply?
You must be:
- A student aiming for a Master’s degree, or
- A doctoral candidate worldwide
- Someone at personal risk due to:
- Ethnic identity
- Religious identity
- Sexual or gender identity
- Political or civic engagement
- Able to demonstrate a credible threat (e.g., violence, arrest, denial of education)
- NOT currently residing in Germany or the EU at the time of nomination
- In possession of valid academic records that meet German standards (per Anabin database)
- Able to provide B2-level proficiency in English or German by the nomination deadline
How Are Applicants Selected?
Selection is based on:
- Official nomination by an eligible institution in Germany
- Proof of personal risk or denial of educational rights
- Academic potential and readiness to study in Germany
- Verification of academic documents
- Independent review by the DAAD selection committee
- Language readiness (German or English)
Important:
Candidates cannot apply directly — they must be nominated by an institution in Germany involved in:

How Long Will the Award Last?

How to Apply (Step by Step):
Important: You cannot apply directly. You must be nominated.
Step 1:
A German academic or human-rights-focused institution identifies and nominates you.
Step 2:
The institution submits the nomination online to DAAD (including risk documentation).
Step 3:
DAAD reviews the nomination and contacts shortlisted candidates.
Step 4:
Invited candidates submit the full online application via the DAAD portal.
Step 5:
DAAD verifies all documents and forwards them to the selection committee.
Step 6:
Final decision and scholarship award.
