2026-27 GSK Scholarships for Future Health Leaders are offered to support the training and development of the next generation of leaders in global health, and strengthen the capacity of health systems and health-related research in Africa.

The GSK Scholarships for Future Health Leaders support outstanding African students who aim to become the next generation of leaders in global health.
The scholarship strengthens public health capacity across Africa by funding exceptional candidates to complete a one-year, full-time, London-based MSc programme at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM).

This fellowship is designed for individuals committed to returning to sub-Saharan Africa to contribute to health systems, policy, and research.

Three scholarships are available for the 2026–27 academic year.

Any London-based, full-time MSc programme at LSHTM, except:

  • MSc Global Mental Health
  • MSc Health Policy, Planning & Financing
  • MSc One Health
  • MSc Veterinary Epidemiology
  • Any distance-learning programmes

Type:

Fully Funded Postgraduate Scholarship / Fellowship (One-year MSc).

Who can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be nationals of and resident in a sub-Saharan African country
  • Intend to return to sub-Saharan Africa after completing the MSc
  • Demonstrate financial need (must confirm inability to self-fund)
  • Hold a first degree (first class or upper second class equivalency)
  • Meet LSHTM’s English language requirements by 15 June 2026
  • Hold an offer of admission for a 2026–27 London-based intensive MSc programme
  • Demonstrate strong potential to contribute to public health or health research in Africa

How are Applicants Selected?

Applicants are selected based on:

  • Academic excellence
  • Alignment with public health needs in Africa
  • Evidence of leadership potential
  • Strength of application documents
  • Potential for long-term impact on African health systems

Only complete applications (study application + scholarship application + required documents) submitted before the deadline will be reviewed.

Decisions will be announced week beginning 1 June 2026.

Exclusively for sub-Saharan African countries.

(Full-time, onsite/face-to-face).

How Many Awards?

Three (3) fully funded scholarships for 2026–27.

What is the Benefit of the Award?

Each scholarship covers:

  • Full tuition fees (including mandatory field trip fees)
  • Tax-free living stipend of GBP £22,000
  • Academic and professional development support
  • World-class training at a top global health institution

How Long Will the Award Last?

The scholarship covers the entire one-year duration of an LSHTM intensive MSc programme (2026–27).

How to Apply:

Applicants must complete two mandatory steps before the deadline:

Step 1 — Apply for Admission

  • Submit an application for a London-based MSc programme for 2026–27.
  • Pay the £50 LSHTM application fee early to avoid processing delays.
  • Upload all required documents through the LSHTM Admissions Portal.

Step 2 — Apply for the Scholarship

  • After submitting your study application, you will receive an automated email with a link to the scholarship portal.
  • Log in, search for “GSK Scholarships for Future Health Leaders,” and complete the form.
  • Submit the scholarship application before the deadline.
  • You will receive a confirmation email upon successful submission.

Important notes:

  • Both applications (MSc + Scholarship) must be complete by the deadline.
  • Missing documents or late applications will not be considered.
  • English language proof must be submitted by 15 June 2026.
  • Applicants awaiting scholarship decisions must inform LSHTM Admissions to extend the deposit deadline.
