Tell Me About the Program:

The Obama Foundation Leaders Program is a six-month leadership development initiative that brings together emerging changemakers between the ages of 24 and 45 from Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, and the United States.

The program is designed to equip participants with values-based leadership skills, connect them with peers and mentors, and amplify their impact in communities around the world.

Through virtual sessions, peer learning, and one in-person convening, participants explore themes such as ethical leadership, community empowerment, innovation, and social change, guided by the principles of President Barack Obama’s leadership philosophy.

Which Fields are Eligible?

Open to individuals across all professional sectors, including:

  • Public service and government
  • Civil society and non-profits
  • Private sector and social enterprises
  • Education and research
  • Arts, media, and community advocacy

Applicants must be actively driving social, economic, or environmental impact in their communities.

Who can Apply?

Applicants must:

  • Be aged 24–45 as of July 15, 2025.
  • Have at least three years of relevant leadership experience.
  • Be based in, or have a clear connection to, one of the eligible regions (Africa, Asia-Pacific, Europe, or the United States).
  • Be proficient in English (written and spoken).
  • Be committed to actively participating in the full program from February to July 2025.
  • Not be engaged in an electoral political campaign during the program period.

How are Participants Selected?

Selection is based on:

  • Demonstrated track record of impact and leadership.
  • Commitment to values-based leadership (integrity, inclusion, empathy).
  • Potential to contribute to and benefit from the Obama Leaders network.
  • Clarity of vision for sustainable community or regional change.

Which Countries Are Eligible?

Participants are drawn from:

  • Africa: All African countries.
  • Asia-Pacific: Countries such as Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan, Fiji, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, etc.
  • Europe: All 46 Council of Europe member states and Kosovo.
  • United States: All 50 U.S. states, Washington D.C., and U.S. territories.

Where will the Program be Taken?

The program will be held virtually, with a three-day in-person convening scheduled for late June or early July 2025, subject to travel and safety conditions.

How Many Participants?

Not specified — each regional cohort typically includes around 30–35 participants, joining a global network of over 1,500 Obama Leaders.
