To celebrate 200 years of innovation and world-changing research, the University of Manchester is offering over 45 fully funded Bicentenary PhD Studentships for the September 2026 intake.
The program aims to support exceptional researchers to pursue PhD studies within the Faculty of Science and Engineering, fostering cutting-edge research in key global areas such as Digital & AI, Environment, Health Inequalities, and Creative Industries.

- Environment and Climate Change

More than 70 eligible PhD projects are available across departments within the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

Who can Apply?
To be considered, applicants must:
- Have submitted a PhD application by January 31, 2026 for a September 2026 start.
- Hold (or expect to achieve) at least a First Class or 2:1 UK Honours degree (or international equivalent).
- Ideally possess a Master’s qualification at merit or distinction (or equivalent).
- Demonstrate research potential through prior publications, awards, or relevant experience.
- Secure a formal offer for a place on one of the University’s PhD programmes.
