The University of Surrey, in partnership with the British Council and the GREAT Britain Campaign, is offering one prestigious £10,000 scholarship for a Kenyan student to pursue a one-year postgraduate taught degree beginning in September 2026.

This award is part of the broader GREAT Scholarships 2026 initiative, which supports exceptional students from 14 countries in gaining access to world-class education at leading UK universities.

All one-year, full-time postgraduate taught programs offered at the University of Surrey are eligible.

Who Can Apply?

Eligibility criteria:
In order to be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be a permanent resident of Kenya and Kenyan passport holder
  • Hold an unconditional offer for a full-time postgraduate course starting in September 2026 
  • Be active in the field with work experience or with a proven interest in the proposed subject area 
  • Be willing to embody the UK Higher Education experience, by attending lectures and tutorials and engaging with extra-curricular activities, and act as an ambassador for UK Higher Education, by promoting the value of studying at a UK HEI 
  • Represent the high standards of the GREAT brand by becoming an advocate for scholarships 
  • Be willing to attend a networking event of all UK-based GREAT scholars, to discuss experiences and capture perceptions of studying in the UK 
  • Be willing to demonstrate future contribution to capacity-building and socio-economic advancement through the benefits achieved after graduating from UK higher education 
  • Be willing to maintain contact with the British Council and act as an ambassador for the GREAT scholarships, by sharing experiences of studying in the UK with future GREAT candidates and scholars.

Selection is based on academic merit, professional experience or interest in the chosen field, leadership potettial, and the applicant’s commitment to making a positive impact in Kenya.

One (1) scholarship is available.

What is the Benefit of the Award?

  • A tuition fee discount of £10,000 for one year of postgraduate study.

How Long Will the Award Last?

One academic year (the duration of the Master’s program).

  1. Apply for admission to a full-time postgraduate taught program at the University of Surrey for September 2026.
  2. Obtain your University Reference Number (URN).
  3. Complete the GREAT Scholarship Application Form available on the University of Surrey’s official scholarship webpage.

Only applicants who have received an offer (conditional or unconditional) are eligible to apply for the scholarship.
