Tell Me About the Award:
The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship Programme was established by the Government of Hungary to promote the internationalisation of Hungarian higher education and attract outstanding students from around the world.
Managed by the Tempus Public Foundation, the scholarship enables qualified international students to pursue Bachelor’s, Master’s, One-Tier Master’s, Non-Degree, and Doctoral programmes at top Hungarian universities — completely tuition-free.
This initiative aims to strengthen cultural exchange, academic cooperation, and development partnerships between Hungary and participating countries.

All fields of study are available, depending on each partner country’s agreement. Common areas include:
- Engineering, Technology & IT
- Natural & Environmental Sciences
- Health Sciences & Medicine
- Agriculture & Food Science
- Social Sciences, Humanities & Education
- Arts & Music
Applicants are advised to confirm available programmes for their country via the Stipendium Hungaricum portal or the DreamApply system.

Who can Apply?
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be citizens of partner countries with a valid bilateral agreement with Hungary.
- Possess the required academic qualifications for their chosen programme.
- Meet the language requirements (usually English, though some Hungarian-taught options exist).
- Apply through their sending partner (usually a government agency or education ministry).
- Be mentally and physically fit as certified by a medical certificate.
How are Applicants Selected?
Selection is conducted in collaboration between:
- Sending Partners – who pre-select candidates in eligible countries.
- Hungarian Higher Education Institutions – who conduct academic assessments and admissions.
Final decisions are made jointly, based on:
- Academic performance
- Motivation and study plan
- Relevance of chosen programme to home country’s development needs
Successful applicants are notified between May and June 2026.
Which Countries Are Eligible?
Applicants from over 90 partner countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, and Latin America are eligible.
Examples include: Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Brazil, Mexico, and South Africa.

📍 Hungary — at one of the country’s accredited public universities and higher education institutions.
How Many Awards?
Thousands of scholarships are awarded each year under the Stipendium Hungaricum Programme.
What is the Benefit of the Award?
The scholarship is fully funded and covers:

✅ Monthly stipend (for living expenses throughout the study period)
✅ Free accommodation or housing allowance
✅ Health insurance coverage
✅ Visa support and assistance from host universities
How Long Will the Award Last?
⏳ Duration depends on the level of study:
- Bachelor’s programmes: 2–4 years
- Master’s programmes: 1.5–2 years
- One-Tier Master’s: 5–6 years
- Doctoral programmes: 4 years
- Non-Degree programmes: 1 year

- Find your chosen programme – Check eligible fields for your country on the Stipendium Hungaricum website.
- Apply online – Submit your application through the DreamApply system on the Tempus Public Foundation portal.
- Upload all required documents – including academic transcripts, motivation letter, proof of language proficiency, and a medical certificate.
- Submit your application to both your sending partner and the Hungarian host institution.
- Wait for the selection results, announced between May and June 2026.
