The African Organisation for Standardization (ARSO) invites entries for the 13th Continental Essay Competition (2025/2026) — a prestigious platform for young African thinkers and writers to showcase their creativity and critical perspectives on Africa’s development through standardization.
This annual competition encourages university and college students across Africa to engage in discourse on sustainability, fair trade, and harmonized standards that drive continental growth.
The 2025/2026 theme is:
“The Role of Harmonised Standards in Reducing Technical Barriers to Trade and in Promoting Fair and Just Trade within the Intra-African and Global Trade.”

University and college students from all academic disciplines are welcome to participate.

- Be currently studying in a university, polytechnic, or college recognized by their country’s education authority.

Essays are judged on originality, clarity, relevance to the theme, and adherence to the submission guidelines. Winners are selected at both national and continental levels.

What is the Benefit of the Competition?
Continental Level Prizes:
- 🥇 1st Place: $1,000
- 🥈 2nd Place: $800
- 🥉 3rd Place: $500
National Level Prizes (Nigeria Example):
- 🥇 1st Place: ₦250,000
- 🥈 2nd Place: ₦200,000
- 🥉 3rd Place: ₦150,000

- Length: 1000–1200 words
- Font: Century Gothic, size 12, double-spaced
- Languages: English or French
- Author Information (max 50 words): Include name, course, year of study, university, town, and country.
