Who is eligible to apply?

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, protected persons, or international students with a valid study permit.
  • Be enrolled full-time in a Master’s or Doctoral program (or a graduate certificate that leads to a Master’s program).
  • Live in Alberta while enrolled, even if studying remotely.
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.3 in their most recent coursework (or admission GPA if newly admitted).
  • Demonstrate academic excellence through grades, research, publications, or community engagement.
  • Be in years 1–4 of a Master’s program or years 1–6 of a Doctoral program.
  • Complete the AGES Student Declaration Form confirming Alberta residency.

How Do They Choose Applicants?

Faculties at participating universities nominate students based on academic performance, research contributions, and scholarly achievements. The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) then verifies eligibility and selects final recipients.
