All academic fields and disciplines offered by participating Alberta universities are eligible, including both course-based and thesis-based graduate programs.

Who is eligible to apply?
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, protected persons, or international students with a valid study permit.
- Be enrolled full-time in a Master’s or Doctoral program (or a graduate certificate that leads to a Master’s program).
- Live in Alberta while enrolled, even if studying remotely.
- Have a minimum GPA of 3.3 in their most recent coursework (or admission GPA if newly admitted).
- Demonstrate academic excellence through grades, research, publications, or community engagement.
- Be in years 1–4 of a Master’s program or years 1–6 of a Doctoral program.
- Complete the AGES Student Declaration Form confirming Alberta residency.
How Do They Choose Applicants?
Faculties at participating universities nominate students based on academic performance, research contributions, and scholarly achievements. The Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) then verifies eligibility and selects final recipients.
Which nations are qualified?
🌍 All countries — both domestic and international students studying in Alberta are eligible.
Where will the prize be accepted?
🏫 At universities across Alberta, Canada, including the University of Alberta, University of Calgary, and others.
How Many Honors?
The number of awards varies annually depending on the faculty allocation and available funding from the Government of Alberta.
What Advantage Does the Award Offer?
🎁 Each recipient receives $12,000 CAD as a one-time payment, which can be used to support tuition, research, and living expenses.
This award also enhances students’ academic profiles and increases their competitiveness for future scholarships and research funding.
What’s the Duration of the Award?
⏳ One academic year (non-renewable). However, students may be re-nominated in subsequent years if they continue to meet eligibility criteria.
How do I Apply?
- Students cannot apply directly online.
- Complete the AGES Student Declaration Form and submit it to your faculty by their internal deadline.
- Faculties will nominate qualified students to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (GPS) for final selection.
- Check with your faculty for specific deadlines and nomination procedures.
