The Jobtech Alliance has launched the Cross Border Jobs Startup Competition 2025, targeting innovative African startups that focus on enhancing labour mobility. This initiative aims to support solutions that improve the safety, fairness, and accessibility of cross-border employment in response to the increasing workforce and the demand for better job opportunities beyond national borders.

The Cross Border Jobs Startup Competition 2025 seeks to identify and support innovative startups building solutions that make labour mobility for Africans safer, fairer, and more accessible.
The initiative aims to spotlight ventures helping African talent move, connect, and thrive across borders — whether through recruitment, technology, or enabling services.

This program is organized by the Jobtech Alliance, in collaboration with Labor Mobility Partnerships (LaMP), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and Tech Safari, with support from the Challenge Fund for Youth Employment (CFYE).

Startups and innovations in:

  • Labour mobility and job matching platforms
  • Recruitment and placement services
  • Migrant support tools (finance, housing, language, compliance)
  • Jobtech platforms expanding into cross-border employment

Who can Apply?

✅ Registered startups (at any stage, including idea or MVP)
✅ Focused on cross-border labour mobility for Africans
✅ Operating within Africa or globally but serving African workers
✅ Must demonstrate ethical and responsible labour migration practices

How are Applicants Selected?

Applications are judged based on:

  1. Impact Potential – Scale and depth of social/economic impact
  2. Business Viability – Evidence of traction or sustainable model
  3. Innovation – Uniqueness of approach and use of technology
  4. Safeguarding Considerations – Protection of workers and ethical operations

🌍 Startups from all African countries or those serving African workers globally

Hybrid / Online participation — managed by Jobtech Alliance (Mercy Corps) and partners

🏆 Three (3) winning startups

💰 $10,000 grant for each of the top three startups
💻 Tech perks worth up to $200,000 (AWS credits, tools, etc.)
🤝 Mentorship and networking through Jobtech Alliance, LaMP, IOM & partners
🚀 Eligibility for follow-on support for startups showing strong traction

How Long Will the Program Last?

Competition timeline runs from October to December 2025, including pitch week and post-selection support.
